Deciding which project photos to cut out of the portfolio was one of the many difficult tasks in the design of our new website. Some older photos no longer demonstrated the level of our design capabilities, while others overstayed their welcome. These micro designs are still worth mentioning because together they showcase an important part of our work—that each project aligns with the unique design preferences of the homeowner. Whether it’s a traditional country home, a modern diner style kitchen, a chef’s retirement home, or a teenager’s sanctuary, our goal has always been and will always be, to extract your vision from your heart and translate it into your space.
LIVING AREA AND ENTRY DESIGNED BY CELIA ALIDA RUTTE
CAMPBELLVILLE COUNTRY
When one of our clients purchased an older home in the country, we were given the opportunity to breathe new life into the old bones of a dark and dated structure. One of the first things on our design agenda was to renovate this family room and foyer on the main floor. Everything was stripped away except the old pine wide-plank flooring, the existing stone tiles, and a red brick fireplace.
New furniture, finishes, window treatments, and wall coverings were coordinated in a quiet, earthy colour palette accented with soft grey, pale blue, and cream. The fireplace was given a major facelift with drywall, paint, and a new custom-made mantle. Chrome and glass accents were introduced to add additional life and light into the space. The foyer was given a fresh coat of paint, and decorated with stylish furniture pieces and treasured artwork. The result is an uplifting, peaceful and cozy décor that offers an inviting gathering spot for this busy family with five teenagers.

AGING IN PLACE
Many couples as they hit retirement and prepare for the “autumn of life” choose new living situations that will support their ability to age in place. “Aging in Place” is a term that is used to describe an older individual who prepares their home environment so that they may live there comfortably, for as long as possible. This is the case for two travelling love birds, who downsized from their Toronto home to a condo on the lake shore.
The spacious condo offered up, a double door entry, wide passageways, an open concept kitchen, and a stunning view. We worked with the couple and their contractor to gut and redesign the kitchen to the “chefs” detailed specs.
With their main living quarters now concentrated on one floor, and a safe haven for them to return to in between their exciting travels round the world, this couple has created a nest which they may well enjoy to the end of their stay.

KITCHEN AID RED
Sandra and her husband were very eager to renovate their kitchen. They wanted it to reflect the 1950’s diner style era, and they dreamed of adding an addition on the back of the house to enlarge the existing floor space. They had been thinking about the renovation for many years and kept putting it off because they didn’t know how to go about it.
That is where we came in. Our efforts were concentrated on guiding the homeowner through the design and renovation process and lifting them up and over any obstacles that were in the way. We worked as facilitators while the homeowner actively sourced and managed their renovation.
It was a very special project, rewarded with the satisfaction of a dream come true.
TEEN BEDROOM DESIGNED BY CELIA ALIDA RUTTE
SLEEPING BEAUTY
The world that surrounds us reflects the world within us. We know this to be true. Think of a time when you were overwhelmed with work responsibilities and your home life suffered as a result.
The before photos of this young teenage girl’s bedroom reflected some version of chaos, which is not an uncommon state of being for most teenagers, given the challenges they face. Interestingly though, this particular young girl very carefully selected some of the key design elements that inspired the finished design of her bedroom.
Within each of us is a diamond, waiting to be cut, that it may shine all its wonderful brilliance on the world. This uncut diamond is what I call a sleeping beauty. There are many ways to awaken the sleeping beauty. One of them is to consciously create an environment that reflects that which we are ready to birth. Only when we truly feel worthy of beauty will we so boldly manifest that beauty in our surroundings; and it is the act of creating this environment for ourselves, and maintaining it, that can launch our awakening.
