OUR KITCHEN DESIGN IN STYLE AT HOME MAGAZINE

by | Apr 1, 2026

It’s a cool feeling when one of your kitchen designs is featured in a top interior design magazine; and even cooler when it gets highlighted as one of the year’s top interior design trends. In the winter 2026 edition of Style at Home, Véronique Quirion begins the TREND WATCH 2026 article with the following summary, “The year’s interior design trends are all about personal expression and bringing warmth and texture into our homes. Rigid rules are a thing of the past. This year, we’re daring to mix styles, reinterpret the classics and create spaces that tell a story.”

This is exactly what I see in my design work with clients. They are investing in objects, materials and finishes that not only support them in their daily lives but speak to them personally. Impressing friends and neighbours, is becoming a thing of the past; right alongside the ever-popular white kitchen. Homeowners are daring instead to create a unique expression of their own personal style, reflecting what matters to them the most.

This kitchen was part of a full house renovation. During the design phase of the project the homeowner was strongly drawn to design elements of watery blue and green with black and brass accents and dark caramel wood tones. They knew what they liked and they never strayed from their preferred palette; so, I encouraged them to stay the course. We added layered textures, wallpaper, and some well-placed accessories to increase visual interest.

It was kismet that we found the photo of their kitchen design placed prominently in the magazine article, under the heading COLOURFUL KITCHENS. They courageously stepped away from the tried-and-true safety net of neutrals and became trend setters in a prominent Canadian design magazine. In Quirion’s summary of trend # 9 she writes, “Say goodbye to the all-white kitchen and say hello to colourful kitchens that are bursting with personality and warmth. Rich shades like forest green, terracotta, burgundy and deep blue bring character to cabinetry and walls. Inspired by Mediterranean style, these colours pair beautifully with tactile materials like fluted wood fronts, veined stone countertops, zellige backsplashes and matte brass handles. This trend isn’t about creating a perfectly coordinated look. It’s about crafting a layered, inviting, harmonious space, where every element shines.”
