After our wedding ceremony Justin and I stole away with our photographer. While she took these beautiful, playful, and sexy photos we shared a cigar and celebrated the end of a very long journey. After planning three weddings in three different seasons… we finally made it…HALLELUJAH
Enjoy these photos along with our written ceremony, which was arranged by Celia, with the help of their wedding ceremony officiant Gorette Marques. Justin and Celia wrote their vows together. If you are looking for someone to perform your wedding ceremony, we loved Gorette and highly recommend her services.

Opening to Prayer
Wedding ceremonies can often fly by, especially for the couple. Celia and Justin would like to take a few minutes to be centered and present in this wonderful moment.
I invite each of you to close your eyes, take a deep breath and relax into the words of our opening prayer.
- officiant takes a pause as guests center themselves.
Opening Prayer:
We ask that the air in this room be purified and rarified with every positive creative atom of the universe.
We ask that our thoughts be filled with love, joy and affirmation in and around this most sacred of unions.
We ask that you surround Justin and Celia with only the very best and the very highest, as they pledge their vows to each other today and celebrate the love they have for each other.
We ask all of this in your name, in your spirit, in your truth.
As it is spoken, so it shall be, amen.
- officiant takes a pause
Please be seated
Opening Words:
Good afternoon everyone, my name is Gorette and I have the pleasure and honour of presiding over this wedding ceremony today.
On behalf of Justin and Celia, welcome and thank you for being here.
They are delighted that you are here today to share in their joy during this wonderful moment.
Each one of you has been personally invited, and by your presence you celebrate with them the love they have discovered in each other, and you support their decision to make their commitment to one another to be partners in life together.
Expression of Intent and Consent:
Now just a few questions to recognize your intent in this space:
Do you Celia and Justin, in the presence of those witnessing this ceremony today, take each other, to be lawful wedded spouse? Together Reply, we do! “We Do”
Do you solemnly declare that you do not know of any lawful impediment why you may not be joined in matrimony to each other? Together Reply, yes! “Yes”
You have chosen each other to be your partners in life together. Will you love and respect each other? Will you be honest with each other in every way? Will you stand by each other through whatever may come? Together Reply: We will! “We Will”
Affirmation of Family and Friends:
Now, in the spirit of joy and affirmation, I want to ask your families and friends a question: Do you, the families and friends of Justin and Celia give them your blessing and support, wishing them a wonderful life together?
All answer: We do
Hand Fasting:
Celia and Justin have chosen to include in their ceremony a traditional handfasting. This is a symbolic binding of the hands that inspires the terms “Bonds of Holy Matrimony”.
- inspired by the following handfasting demonstration from Humanist Society Scotland – VIEW
Justin and Celia, place your right hands in front of you and side by side.
I will now ask the best man to come forward and place the wedding rings in their palms.
Thank you.
- Best man returns to his seat.
Justin and Celia, fold your two right hands into each other.
Justin place your left hand on top to symbolize protection.
Celia place your left hand on the bottom to symbolize support.
Hand Fasting Continued:
I will now ask Celia’s parents to come forward.
[Father] will you place the first ribbon over Celia and Justin’s hands to symbolize the pledge of love and support from Celia’s family.
[Mother] will you place the second ribbon over their hands to symbolize Celia’s love for Justin and her commitment to their marriage.
Thank you.
- Celia’s parents return to their seats
I will now ask Justin’s parents to come forward.
[Father] will you place the third ribbon over Justin and Celia’s hands to symbolize the pledge of love and support from Justin’s family.
[Mother] will you place the fourth ribbon over their hands to symbolize Justin’s love for Celia and his commitment to their marriage.
Thank you.
- Justin’s parents return to their seats
I will now ask the maid of honour to come forward and bind their hands by tying the four ribbons in a knot.
- as maid of honour ties ribbons the officiant explains what the knot represents
The knot represents the joining of these two families, and the blessing of the universal spirit.
Thank you.
- maid of honour returns to her seat
Vows:
We now come to your vows.
Justin and Celia, as you hold on to each other’s hands, look into each other’s eyes.
Justin, repeat after me:
Celia, today I pledge to you my eternal love.
I promise to be faithful and true to you in mind, body and spirit.
In the joys and troubles that lie ahead I will cherish and respect you, and be a source of comfort and encouragement.
Through life’s journeys, no matter what lies in our path, it will be our path together.
Hand in hand we will return to the Garden of Eden.
This is my solemn vow.
Celia, repeat after me:
Justin, today I pledge to you my eternal love.
Reading by Officiant:
Justin and Celia, as your hands are bound together now, your lives and spirits are joined in a union of love and trust.
Reaching out to the one you love, may you find strength.
Standing side by side, may you find partnership.
Sharing responsibilities, may you find equality and ease.
Helping each other in daily life and works, may you find fulfillment.
Loving each other through dark and light times, may you find power.
As you hold hands, may you warmly hold one another’s hearts.
Look deeply into one another’s eyes now… and promise to always see one another through the eyes of love.
I will now ask the maid of honour, to collect the ribbons from their hands.
- Justin and Celia pull their hands out of the ribbons and retrieve the rings they will exchange.
Exchange of Rings:
The wedding ring is an emblem of love through time, a symbol of devotion and an agreement between two people to love and cherish one another for the rest of their days.
A wedding ring is circular, having no beginning or end. It is therefore a symbol of infinity; endless; eternal; just the way love should be.
Celia and Justin, let these rings—which are now infused with your families blessing, your love, and your vows—be a tangible reminder of your marriage union and the promises that have been made here today.
Celia, place the ring on Justin’s finger and repeat after me:
I give you this ring… as an eternal symbol… of my love and commitment to you… and with this ring I thee wed.
Justin, place the ring on Celia’s finger and repeat after me:
I give you this ring… as an eternal symbol… of my love and commitment to you… and with this ring I thee wed.
May those who wear these rings live in love for all their days.
Signing of the Marriage License:
Your love and bond existed before you two ever met.
Your hearts have already joined together in harmony.
Marriage may only be a piece of paper to some, a formality.
Truthfully, marriage is a conscious intention, before the Universe, that you will vow to love and support each other indefinitely.
By creating this intention of marriage, you are establishing your reality, which solidifies your commitment as authentic beings of eternal love.
So, while this is a celebration of love and commitment, we have come to the moment in the ceremony where you will be officially joined together.
I now invite the witnesses to join the couple at the signing table.
- signing music begins; Hauser – Ave Maria
- maid of honour and best man will be our witnesses.
- Justin and Celia sign the marriage license along with witnesses.
- music is faded out
Return to the Altar for Declaration:
Throughout this ceremony, Celia and Justin have vowed, in our presence, to be loyal and loving towards each other.
They have formalized the bond between them with spoken vows and with the giving and receiving of rings.
We all recognize and respect the covenant of marriage you have made here this day before each one of us as witnesses.
And so, Celia and Justin, in the presence of your family and friends, by the powers vested in me, by the Marriage Act of the Province of Ontario, and by the power of the love and commitment you entrust to each other, I hereby pronounce you to be…
Husband and Wife
Sealed with a Kiss:
Justin, you may kiss your bride.

In a moment, I will announce the newlyweds. Once Celia and Justin leave the Chapel, you may join them in the garden for photos.
But… there is one more thing for Celia and Justin to do…we are going to announce to the world around us that Celia and Justin are married, the old school way, by ringing the chapel wedding bell.
