As we age many of the memories from our past are lost. Therefore I find it especially interesting when one of them sticks around, like it’s glued to your soul, begging you to periodically go back and reflect on its significance. I have one such memory; it is of the very moment that I came across my pack of Thoth Tarot Cards. I was in my late teens early twenties, and I was wandering through a new age trinket shop in Munich Germany. While most of the other details of that moment are a blur, I can still see my hand reaching for the cards, and the feeling that I had to purchase them. It was exactly like I was being guided to pick them up off the shelf and take them home.
In this early part of my life, I would sit with the Thoth Tarot and pull cards to assist with questions that I had. Yet even though I had purchased a guidebook—Tarot, Mirror of the Soul, by Gerd Ziegler—which was a handbook for the Aleister Crowley Tarot, I never really understood what the cards meant or how to effectively apply Gerd’s beautiful interpretations of the cards, to my life. Regardless, my interest in the mysterious deck of cards and my care for them never wavered; and three decades would pass by before their meaning would begin to be illuminated. That however, is another message which you can read here in My Wedding Story.
This message is about Inner Perception, which is our direct communication with the creator; and to be precise, how the Tarot can be a powerful tool for tuning into our inner perception, so that we learn to tune in naturally. Thus, being guided in our life decisions with inter and intra-dimensional wisdom that re-aligns us with our original divine blueprint.
In the words of Sadhguru, the influential and well-known yogi and mystic, “The source of creation [] functions within you, every moment of your life. It is a living reality like your breath and your body.” Our sense organs (smell, sound, sight, touch, and taste) are physical in nature, but “our inner perception is spiritual. [] Spiritual is a dimension, which is beyond the physical [and] which is the source of the physical.” [] “Spirituality is not something that you concoct. It is something that you explore. If you want to explore these dimensions, the only way, is to enhance your perception.”
Exploring the dimensions of spirituality through the Tarot begins first and foremost with an open mind. To have an interaction with the creator you have to be open to the possibility. If you are closed off and believe, for example, that there is no way anything real or serious could possibly manifest from a silly game of cards, you will automatically silence your natural curiosity to explore things that pique your interest in a reading. By not allowing yourself to be open to the idea that you exist beyond the physical dimension, you may be denying yourself the possibility of having a connection with the spiritual dimension.
Most people are open to the idea of something beyond what we can see and feel with our physical senses; and they will wonder from time to time if there is something beyond our physical experience that is influencing our life. However our mind—severely overloaded with information and stimulation—has taken over as commander in chief, drawing primarily from intellect to direct our life and make all of our decisions. In our modern day overly intellectualized world, what many of us have lost touch with is our direct communication with the creator. Even more debilitating is that we have lost our “belief” that communication with source is actually a real thing.
This is where Tarot cards come in so beautifully, as they can allow us the opportunity to have a direct experience with our inner perception so that we can begin to rekindle our belief. A near-death-experience, or prophetic dream is a great example of an event that will naturally intrigue a person and can draw them into an exploration. Working with the Tarot—when we have an experience or repeat experiences that cannot be explained unless something beyond the physical senses is at work—our belief will naturally strengthen.
Furthermore, the Tarot can act as the confidence-building-bridge between belief and trust. When we have repeat positive and beneficial experiences, trust will develop. With “belief” and “trust” we open ourselves up to the possibility of tapping directly into our inner perception. To be clear, it would be irresponsible to trust a tarot card to answer your important life questions. However, working with them over a period of time and in the right way, you are likely to experience that it’s not so much about trusting the cards will answer your questions, rather it’s about becoming aware and trusting that you already know the answers.
